Serendipity Dyeing

This week I found a HUGE mushroom type fungus growing at the base of a tree. After using an ammonia extraction on the chopped-up pieces, I have, this evening, dyed a sample and it is a strong golden yellow.

Presently I’m doing lots of dye samples with local gums. The dry spring in 2019 encouraged me to think the colours would be strong. I have a great orange from one of the local gums – an iron bark. Usually these gums give me a reddish brown.
